If you’ve ever wondered what a grassroots street art paint jam is, now’s the time to find out. Tampa’s inaugural Guava City Paint Jam launched over the weekend with a pop-up gallery at Noble Brew and mural painting at Grassroots Kava House in Seminole Heights.
The artist-led festival features some of the same muralists who’ve contributed to SHINE and other mural festivals in the past. But this time, they’re painting local businesses in their own neighborhoods.
Finding out who’s painting where and when can be a bit of a challenge for a grassroots, artist-led festival, but Paulina Casati, Quinn Cale, Chris Dyer, Carlos Pons and Kris Markovich were all painting the walls outside Grassroots Kava House—located at 5248 N Florida Ave. in tampa—late Sunday afternoon.
Here are a few photos from opening weekend, but the art doesn’t stop here. The festival continues through Saturday, May 10, culminating in two big weekend events.
On Friday, May 9, Hoxxoh uses a speaker rig and 808 bass to splash paint onto Commercial Acoustics’ warehouse walls in Tampa’s Old Seminole Heights neighborhood starting at 5 p.m. This is followed by a Pop-Up and Neighborhood Jam in Tampa’s Palma Ceia neighborhood on Saturday, May 10, featuring outdoor art and music by J.T. Brown on Bay to Bay Boulevard.
