When you think of your Top 5 favorite records, the first thing that pops into your mind, outside of the music itself, is … ?

The record art, for sure.

Some have argued the art on the outside of the record is as important as the art you listen to, spinning about. It sticks with you, you remember it, you recall it, you recognize it. The kickass Kick Start My Art duo, Chad and Suzie Cardoza, are aware of the power behind good looking record covers. They've joined forces once again with the masterminds of The Bricks of Ybor to bring you one heck of an art and music collaboration.

The Photo Album art show (and record swap!) will feature 30-plus local artists who have re-created their favorite album covers and expressed them in a photograph. The show features some of the best, with the likes of Chris Preston aka DJ Cub, Michelle Sawyer, Nicole Kibert, Melissa Wilson, and Theresa Crout. Keeping true to most Kick Start/Bricks shows, there's a bit of bonus material (the elusive hidden track if you will).

Along with the art, there will be several of Tampa's finest record collectors selling and trading albums throughout the show. So put on your finest music snob dancing shoes, and come check it all out in the laid back, but never dull atmosphere of The Bricks of Ybor.

Maybe score newly photographed versions of those Top 5 records.

John Cusack would be stoked.

The show kicks off Saturday, Jan. 21, at 8 p.m. The Bricks is at 1327 E. Seventh Ave., Ybor City. 813-247-1785, thebricksybor.com.
