Happy Friday-eve and welcome to the 5th podcast installment of The Grind with Flip Satchel and Bill Freitas. The single most difficult 1-day-a-week job since Jack Bauer, with significantly fewer deaths, guaranteed.
On the show today:
Pena, BJ, and the Rays mash at the plate
Remember when you got your first bb gun and you wondered what it would be like to shoot a bird, then spent the rest of the day crying because it was a moment when you realized that all life is precious? Well, snap out of it, pansy. It's a cruel world. The Rays took the Jays behind the woodshed Wednesday evening and woke the neighbors beating the snot out of them for the second time in as many nights, 10-1. Carlos Pena and BJ Upton are a combined 12 for 24 at the plate over the last three games. Pena's average had hit a season low at .169 before his bat came to life in Texas and BJ's average was as low as .210 a couple of weeks ago. Both bats have been revived and the Rays have 28 runs over the last 3 games and the arms on the mound are clicking as well. This is the Rays team that can win the AL East. This is the Rays team that can do serious damage in October. (No birds were harmed in the creation of today's article)
The Flyers got it done in spectacular fashion. Not only did they lose, but they gave the fans just enough hope to believe a game seven was possible only to have their dreams crushed in overtime. Congrats to Chicago and a big fat thank you to Philly fans just for being you. If you weren't such predictable classless sore losers we wouldn't have enjoyed the Blackhawks victory nearly as much. Your pain is delicious.
PLUS: Flip and Bill bang their gums about Ben Roethlisburger excited about closing the unpleasant rape chapter of his life, John Daly suing a children's charity (you stay classy, John), and Flip's mid-life crisis (at 29).
