The first local pitches at spring training don’t fly until Feb. 22 (Yankees vs. Blue Jays in Tampa), Feb. 23 (Rays vs. Yankees in Port Charlotte; Phillies vs. Pirates in Clearwater) and Feb. 24 (Blue Jays vs. Braves in Dunedin), but the Lakeland Tigers (who’ve been playing spring ball locally for more than a century) kick things off with a “Welcome Back BBQ” at Joker Marchant Stadium where food, drinks and a souvenir mug are all included.
