Famous comedians, clowns and free shows. Need we say more?
Okay, maybe a little: There's a lot of variety this week, and prices range from more than $60 for tried-and-true performers to absolutely nothing for funny locals. And yes, there are some clowns, too. Pick your favorites and enjoy some laughs this weekend:
Theaters and special events
Black and Brown Comedy Get Down at Amalie Arena. if Cedric the Entertainer, George Lopez, Eddie Griffin, D. L. Hughley, Mike Epps and Charlie Murphy all headlined shows on the same night in Tampa, comedy clubs would be packed on both sides of the bay. Instead they'll all be on the same stage on the same night, providing an evening full of all-star adult stand-up comedy for a very, very large crowd. Kathleen Madigan at The Capitol Theatre. Madigan is a well-respected comedian who's clearly comfortable in her own skin. Dean Napolitano at Tampa Improv. Napolitano’s all about family. From his upbringing to his own kids, there are plenty of funny stories told from his creative perspective. Showtime is Wednesday at 8 p.m. $10. 1600 E. Eighth Ave., Tampa. Info: ImprovTampa.com or 813-864-4000.
Jo Koy at Tampa Improv. Koy's well known to fans of "Chelsea Lately," and his frequent touring has helped him build a sizeable stand-up fan base as well. He'll bring an energetic set to the Improv for a string of special engagement shows.

Penny Circus at Tampa Improv. Penny Circus is kind of like a traveling carnival show, with clowns, stunts and illusions. It's not traditional stand-up, but if you're looking for something different, this could be the show for you.

Tommy Blaze at Side Splitters. Blaze’s forte is relationships, specifically the dynamics between men and women. Regardless of your status, you’ll probably see yourself or a loved one — or maybe even a hated ex — in his clever material. Mike Marino at Snappers Grill & Comedy Club. Marino is known as “New Jersey’s Bad Boy,” and once he opens his mouth, there’s no question where he calls home. But Marino’s a witty guy, not a wise guy. Expect plenty of unfiltered, unapologetic premises designed with laughter in mind. Mike Rivera at 2 Palms Bar & Bistro. ABC’s “The View” named him “America’s Most Hilarious Teacher” in their national contest. G. David Howard at Sporty's On The Beach. Howard's weekly residence at Sporty's features the longtime comedian drawing from his decades of stage experience. He mixes his regular material with plenty of crowd work to provide the kind of set only a true stand-up veteran can provide. Cigar City Comedy at Enigma (free show). Talented locals with plenty of comedy club experience provide some free funny in St. Petersburg.
