Treasure Island might not have many city commissioners left (they’re all leaving in the wake of Florida’s new financial disclosure law for elected officials), but the seaside city celebrates a different kind of flight with this two-day get together behind the Thunderbird Beach Resort.

There’ll be lessons on quad and dual line sky fliers, plus a night flight once the sun goes down (weather permitting). Running the festivities is Florida Windworks, a Madeira Beach shop that specializes in pretty much anything that flies.

There’s no cover to attend the 26th Annual Treasure Island Sport Kite Competition and Festival, happening Sunday-Monday, Jan. 14-15. It takes place behind the Thunderbird Beach Resort at 10700 Gulf Blvd. Subscribe to Creative Loafing newsletters.
