Theater Review: Smokey Joe's Café: The Songs of Leiber and Stoller at St. Petersburg Little Theatre

at St. Pete Little Theater has everything I love about community theater: folks who, (for the most part) have to work day jobs and perform in the theater for the sheer love of it, get to show their stuff. These  talented individuals are giving it their all,  tirelessly dancing jazzy choreography and belting out the songs with true emotion.

The show is a musical revue featuring 39 of Leiber and Stoller’s best-known songs. These composers are not exactly household names, but any fan of classic pop and rock will be familiar with their music. Their works have been immortalized by the likes of Elvis Presley, Big Mama Thornton, the Coasters, Dion and Peggy Lee. They’ve inspired everyone from Burt Bacharach to the Beatles.
