Gulfport's bi-monthly art walk has leaned toward the beachy, decorative end of the art spectrum, but tonight's event features a bona fide art show with contemporary art. Margaret Juul: Channeling Amphridite can be seen at Portspace 6-9 p.m. (if you can't make it, there'll be a closing show on Aug. 7, during the first Friday walk). Juul's series of paintings captures the visceral and evocative qualities of the sea.
The Gulfport Art Walk offers homemade goods, crafts, original paintings and sculpture and other handmade items. It's a friendly, cheerful gathering amidst the colorful early/mid-20th-century Florida bungalows that have been beautifully landscaped and restored. Live music, street entertainers offer amusement, and restaurants open late to cater to passers-by.
