Knitting is the new cocaine.

No, seriously, that's what I had a 20something knitter tell me a few years ago. And, it seems, she was right: People are knitting all night long, knitting so they don't eat, knitting to keep their energy level up, getting together with friends for knitting parties… if you were an adult in the '70s or '80s, this may sound really, really familiar.

Which is why it isn't so hard to believe The Stash — A Place for Yarn hosts a monthly knit night where people can come together and… well, knit.

The event is free, and knitters should bring their own supplies (or come ready to buy). Not sure if you're ready for a group knit? They also have a beginning knitting class starting June 20 (it's a two-week class and costs $50; you'll need to register here.)

So, g’head, get your knit on. All the cool kids are doing it…

Stash — A Place for Yarn, 2820 1st Ave. N., St. Petersburg | June 21: 5:30-8 p.m | Free, yarn and needles available for purchase. | Learn more here
