Tony Award-winning musical Once On This Island arrives in Tampa on November 19 for eight Tampa performances at Straz Center. This version is a revival of composer Stephen Flaherty and lyricist-librettist Lynn Ahrens’ 1990 musical (based on Rosa Guy’s novel “My Love My Love”), which follows Ti Moune, “a fearless peasant girl in search of her place in the world, and ready to risk it all for love” as she stars in a story that’s touched audiences around the globe.
What’s really cool about this one is that immersive seating on the stage, putting audiences in the middle of the Broadway production — but you missed out on those seats ‘cause they’re sold-out. There’s still plenty of space in Straz Center’s Morsani Hall, however, so (Island) hop to it.
Once On This Island Opens Tues. $46 & up. Morsani Hall at David A. Straz Center for the Performing Arts, Tampa. strazcenter.org.
