Water Street Tampa got a little more vibrant last month thanks to new murals by Italian artist Alessandro Etsom.

The professional street artist was commissioned by CASS Contemporary for the paintings, his first ever work in the U.S. Etsom graced the walls of Water Street with three murals which each serve as a connection to Tampa’s natural environment.

The large-scale spray painted murals feature a soaring Reddish Egret, a species of heron found along Florida’s coast, as well as a whale and a parrot in Etsom’s signature style.

“Before I start painting, I like to spend time researching the local environment,” said Etsom. “I want the residents of the neighborhood to stop and enjoy my work in what might otherwise be a mundane, routine day.”

CASS Contemporary most recently brought Dutch artist Leon Keer to Water Street Tampa to create an augmented reality mural on the East Cumberland Avenue parking garage.

Etsom’s three murals are located on the loading dock doors and at the parking garage entrance to the Asher residence at 1050 Water St.
