Flash back to third grade assemblies and your burgeoning stage fright at Wordier Than Thou's Adult Spelling Bee in downtown St. Petersburg this hump day.
Contestants in teams of two to four will be asked to spell five words, and at the end of each round, the team with the lowest number of points will be eliminated. Words spelled correctly earn a team three points. Teams will lose one point for each word spelled incorrectly.
Stand-Up Librarian Meredith Myers emcees; snacks, music and “an opportunity drawing” raffling off items from local businesses, artists and authors will be featured.
Tickets to watch the spelling bee are $7 per person in advance and $10 at the door; $75 per team to compete. Donations will be collected for the Literary Council of St. Petersburg.
