Agent Cooper says the Double R Diner is “where pie goes to die.” It didn’t kill Laura Palmer, though, and an Ybor City theater is giving fans of the cult series a chance to investigate further.

This weekend, Ybor City’s 38-seat Screen Door Microcinema hosts its inaugural Black Lodge Brunch at 11 a.m., an opportunity for fans of cult-classic TV show “Twin Peaks” to come together over coffee, pie and donuts, and discuss the show while watching its two-hour pilot episode.

Admission includes a cup of coffee and choice of donut or cherry hand pie, made by Ybor City’s Jamison B Breadhouse.

Tickets to Screen Door Microcinema’s Black Lodge “Twin Peaks”-inspired brunch and screening on Sunday, July 30 are $15.
Tucked into the 800 square-foot space above recently-shuttered Revolve Clothing Exchange, Ybor City’s film fanatics gather on the weekends for unique showings and events in Tampa’s first official microcinema, Screen Door. Located in the upper levels of the historic Kress building, Screen Door opened in October with the aim to create a shared space for others to discover and participate in film culture.

Screen Door was created by Warren Cockerham, a film professor at the University of Tampa, Ann-Eliza Musoke and Sean O’Brien, who met at a pop-up cinema event Ann created called Second Screen Cult Cinema.

When the space became available—at 1624 E 7th Ave #228—the idea for the microcinema came together naturally. Having a small theater with limited overhead allowed the group to run riskier programming.

Most of the equipment used in the theater, including Super 8-mm, 35-mm and 16-mm projectors and a large film collection, were donated by the University of Tampa’s film department.

While there are regular showings for $8 at 7:30 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, plus a 3:30 p.m. Sunday film, the microcinema occasionally opens its doors for special events, including directors meet-and-greets and themed showings.
