The thematic imaginings of St. Pete alternative artspace Bloom Art Center are often creative, but Down the Rabbit Hole proved to be a particularly striking and immersive collection of mixed-media installations, paying eye-popping homage to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The simulated acid trip tunnel; the colossal Cheshire cat; the table laid out like the “after” picture of a wild tea party; the elaborately costumed performers sitting in as Alice, the Queen of Hearts, the Mad Hatter … it seemed that every Lewis Carroll character and locale was represented in the 7,000-square-foot space. More than 30 artists took part, transporting us “to faraway worlds and impossible places,” if only for a night. Bloom Art Center, 910 Fifth Ave. N., St. Pete. startbloomin.com. —Leilani Polk
