Amy Herzog’s 4000 Miles is mostly about Leo, a 20something man who comes to stay with his grandmother, and who supposedly grows and changes in the process. But no one in the play was quite as interesting as Maya Handa Naff, who played Amanda, a potential hookup who comes home one night with Leo and leaves just a few minutes later. During her short stage life, Naff’s Amanda was drunk, coy, aggressive then defensive, unpredictable, opinionated, deep but playing shallow, teasing but in charge. Then she was gone: alas. If the whole play had been half as interesting as this character, it would have been a masterpiece. —Mark Leib
