Mother Kombucha‘s annual Kombucha Home Brewing Contest is back for a second year. The collaborative celebration of local culture in St. Petersburg, which takes place once again at Vertical Ventures, invites kombucha-loving Floridians to showcase their own one-of-a-kind recipes for the popular fermented tea from 6:45 to 9 p.m. Nov. 7.
A panel of judges — consisting of local brewers, chefs and other community members — will blindly sample each recipe, followed by the state’s largest public kombucha tasting.
Limiting their submissions to no more than two homebrews, contenders are asked to pay a $20 fee per entry and label at least 32 ounces of their booch (one gallon is ideal, BTW) with two things: ingredients and flavor. The staff behind Mother Kombucha plan to feature a few kegs during the competition, too.
As for spectators, all they have to do is show up, because, well, they’re permitted to relish in these DIY creations free of charge.
Proceeds from the Kombucha Home Brewing Contest benefit SailFuture.
