In a few months, Capital Tacos will open its second fast-casual restaurant in St. Petersburg. The local chain of Tex-Mex taco shops announced the latest location — and sixth overall (seventh if you count the Tampa concession stand at Amalie Arena) — on Instagram Jan. 10.
The new Capital Tacos is underway across from Tyrone Square Mall at 6802 22nd Ave. N., where grilled cheese and tomato soup purveyor Tom+Chee used to be.
When it’s ready to launch, the taco shop plans to do so quietly, but customers will receive some hints about the opening along the way.
Even better? Capital Tacos, which debuted its flagship St. Pete restaurant on Fourth Street last year, has promised them a freebie.
“And, to show even more St. Pete love, we’ll be giving away a free taco in our new digs to anyone who drops by in our first month with a 2019 receipt from our location at 5226 4th St. N.,” reads the taco shop’s aforementioned Instagram post. “See you (again) in 2019, St. Pete!”
Started in Pasco in 2013, Capital Tacos now operates locations across three Bay area counties.
