The Mexican restaurant and margarita haven known as Catrinas Tacos and Tequila Bar is finally celebrating its soft opening on January 17.

This new location resides at 1611 N Howard Ave. in Tampa, and owners Karol Ortiz and Tisbeth Mejia have been feverishly preparing for the debut of their 1,500-square-foot restaurant for months now. The authentic Mexican spot was originally was supposed to open last July.

Catrinas Tacos and Tequila Bar has been posting teasers of new entrees and services, like its speakeasy-style private dining room, on Facebook for a few weeks now. The restaurant is still working on zoning for a full liquor license while in soft opening mode, so fingers crossed its a quick process.

True fans of Catrinas might remember its previous location Cocina Y Galeria on MacDill Ave., which closed in 2017. This new location will dish out all of the same Mexican bites, but will feature an open-kitchen concept and freshly made tortillas and tamales.

Catrinas Tacos and Tequila Bar is on CL’s list of the most anticipated restaurants coming to Tampa Bay this year, and we don’t think its made-to-order tacos and award-winning guacamole is going to disappoint.

UPDATED 1/8/20: Updated to show the new soft opening date to the public and alcohol licensing.
