Scoring its community garden in 2013, Tampa's University Area neighborhood received a second educational-meets-healthful foodie installation last week after the University Area Community Development Corporation unveiled its Harvest Hope Center Kitchen.

Adjacent to the garden, which the UACDC also launched, the kitchen at 13704 N. 20th St. acts as a community classroom for nearby residents looking to learn about nutrition, as well as those interested in cooking lessons.

"The opening of the Harvest Hope Center Kitchen is a key component in building and keeping a strong, healthy community," said Sarah Combs, UACDC executive director and CEO, in a news release.

While the garden educates residents on bed maintenance and the like, Harvest Hope will demonstrate how to make meals from what's grown in the garden season to season.

Whitwam Organics, Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring, the Westchase Rotary Club and Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office are among the organizations supplying renovations, equipment and education for the new space.

A schedule of the kitchen's upcoming classes and other events may be found online.
