Clearwater synagogue Temple B’nai Israel is hosting a drive-thru Tampa Bay Jewish Food Festival on April 18, but to get fed you have to preorder by March 31.
Besides a plethora of Jewish staples, like knishes, noodle kugels, hamantaschen, and rye bread loaves, the festival—happening at at 1685 S. Belcher Rd.—has plans to ship in kosher meats and deserts from two famous New York spots—Manhattan’s Carnegie Deli and Brooklyn’s Junior’s Cheescake.
Carnegie’s black and white cookies are available for purchase in addition to the deli’s pastrami and corned beef are available at $22 a pound.
If you’ve never had the Juniors’ famous cheesecake, now’s your chance—a whole plain cheesecake is available for $54, or just a slice for $5. Also available is a raspberry swirl “Little Fella.”
(Not only have I flown a Junior’s cheesecake home after a trip to New York, it was the dessert Sean Combs, aka P. Diddy aka Puff Daddy, made his Making the Band 2 contestants walk five miles in winter to get him.)
Coleslaw, kosher dills, frozen matzo ball soup, chocolate babka, chocolate toffee matzoh, chopped liver, and stuffed cabbage are a few of the other kosher offerings.
The big catch is that you must order online and choose a 30-minute time slot to pick it up, not leaving your car. A map and directions are available via tbiclearwater.org. The festival takes place 9 a.m.-2:30 pm., Sunday, April 18 and there will be no day-of sales. Orders over $75 get a free insulated event tote.
The drive-thru is also taking donations of canned and nonperishable food items. To stay up to date, check out the event’s Facebook page.
