BIRDS EYE VIEW EGG SAMMY at CARMEL KITCHEN
There’s a reason the Birds Eye View snagged a BOTB Critic’s Pick in 2015. Served with a bowl of hollandaise sauce for dunking (or smothering), the sinful creation comes with Swiss and American cheeses, your egg of choice, bacon, tomato and spinach that delightfully ooze from its grilled wheat toast. Try not to make all the pleasure sounds that’re inevitable while scarfing down this weekend brunch favorite. 3601 W. Swann Ave., Tampa, 813-964-6889, carmel-kitchen.com. —Meaghan Habuda
CARNITAS TORTA at CHICKEN AND TACO LOCO
For some south-of-the-border flair, Chicken and Taco Loco’s carnitas torta is an easy choice. Freshly baked house-made bread serves as the perfect vehicle for transporting the warm sandwich’s flavorful shredded pork into your mouth (don’t you dare let a single drop fall into your takeout box). Add the open-air restaurant’s spicy green sauce and you’ll definitely return for more. 408 E. Brandon Blvd., Brandon, 813-502-5970. —Chris Fasick
GRILLED EGGPLANT, PORTOBELLO & BOURSIN at O’BISTRO
Oh, sure. The menu lists boursin, a soft cheese, among this sandwich’s key components. But if you’re vegan, O’Bistro leaves it off for ya. Still, eggplant and portobello mushroom slices and a dense balsamic sauce make for a hearty ’wich. Roasted red peppers and a pepperoncini relish give it a tangy tinge, too, allowing its flavorful insides to come full circle. 6651 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, 727-381-1212, obistroonline.com. —Kate Bradshaw
MOJO CHICKEN at TANGELO’S GRILLEA southern Pinellas go-to for years (Tangelo’s originally came to fame along downtown St. Pete’s First Avenue North), this simple, delicious and filling Latin-Caribbean plate-filler pairs flavorful grilled mojo chicken and Swiss with a pair of secret weapons — garlic mayo and tart cherry peppers — on Cuban bread. 3121 Beach Blvd. S., Gulfport, 727-894-1695, tangelosgrille.com. —Scott Harrell
ROAST PORK at BROCATO’S SANDWICH SHOP
This Tampa legend always has a line out the door, and deservedly so. A sleeper on the menu at Brocato’s, famous for its Cubans and deviled crab, the roast pork sandwich is a ridiculously succulent option with thick, aromatic cuts of miraculously moist pork and a generous helping of ooey, gooey cheese (I went with provolone). The bread is as thick and hearty as the pickle and tomato slices, but the toasty buns really just act like handlebars for a juicy ’wich that squirts back at you with every bite. 5021 E. Columbus Drive, Tampa, 813-248-9977, brocatossandwich.com. —Ray Roa
