On Friday, tasty discounts and freebies are up for grabs during the gastronomic holiday that is National Doughnut Day. Stop by one — or all — of these Tampa Bay spots to satisfy a sweet tooth.
St. Pete Bagel Co. will offer one complimentary glazed doughnut to those who visit any of its three locations in St. Petersburg, Largo and Kenneth City, and Dough (that place off MacDill Avenue with doughnut ice cream cones) also has plans to give out a free classic-style doughnut per person while supplies last in South Tampa. Here, the choices will range from glazed, red velvet and old-fashioned to chocolate cake-glazed, cinnamon twist and jelly-filled.
Those looking for more staple sweets should head to their nearest Krispy Kreme for a freebie of their choice (time it right for a hot one fresh from the oven). Outposts in Brandon, Tampa and St. Pete are headquartered locally.
After they buy a beverage, Dunkin' Donuts guests will receive any doughnut they'd like to munch on for free throughout the holiday while supplies last; just know that the deal excludes Croissant Donuts and Squares. In Tampa, doughnut lovers will receive 15 percent off their doughnut orders at Hyde Park Avenue's SoHo Donut Company, and they may snag a complimentary doughnut with the purchase of a dozen from Nicola's Donuts along Busch Boulevard, too.
Tom+Chee, in the Tyrone area of St. Pete, is spotlighting $2 grilled cheese doughnuts all day (you seriously need to try one of these). Weeki Wachee's Marker 48 Brewing will host the Craving Donuts food truck, plus a beer and doughnut pairing.
And Mini Doughnut Factory's Doughnut Day patrons will indulge to benefit a good cause from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. The South Tampa sweets parlor off Dale Mabry Highway is set to "dough-nate" a percentage of its sales to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital.
