On Dec. 20, downtown Gulfport's Peg's Cantina & Brew Pub closed after 11 years. Tuesday afternoon, Tony Dodson, who co-owns Peg's with his wife Peg Wesselink, told CL they plan to complete the sale of the building and the business in January.
Orange Belt Brewing, the brewery inside Peg's at 3038 Beach Blvd. S. that originated as a side project of Cycle Brewing, will live on, though not in its current location. Eric Trinosky will continue brewing his saisons and sour beers at a site to be determined.
"We're looking for a place in St. Pete as we stand here," Dodson said as staff cleaned and emptied the restaurant.
Debuting in a Gulfport strip mall before moving to Beach Boulevard, Peg's opened in 2004 and served pizza and Mexican food. Over the years, the menu evolved to focus on Mexican, and one of its brewers, Doug Dozark (Wesselink's son), launched Cycle Brewing, which has its own location in downtown St. Pete.
