Joe and Son's Olive Oils has recently relocated in South Tampa. Two blocks east of its previous location, the shop's new home at 3204 W. Bay to Bay Blvd., formerly occupied by Paris Flea Decor & Design Studio, has about as much retail area as the old, allowing customers to sample a wide variety of gourmet olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar.

According to Joe and Son's co-owner Michael Messina, the move afforded them the opportunity to purchase a building and have more space for storage.

Joe & Son Food Center, a grocery store, was established in 1938 by Italian immigrant Giuseppe Favata in Ybor City, where it remained for 40 years until closing in 1976. Owned by four remaining family members, Joe and Son's Olive Oils established retail sales in the Bay to Bay Centre shopping plaza in 2012.

Despite the move, the shop continues to offer high-end oils and vinegars, plus act as a certified "Ultra Premium" tasting room. Every six months, Joe and Son's receives a new harvest, which ensures the freshest virgin olive oil is up for grabs in-store. A grand reopening set to feature prizes, a raffle and a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Bob Buckhorn — is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Joe and Son's operates from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Nearby, Fig & Julep, another olive oil purveyor, made its debut July 1. At 1621 W. Snow Circle, the Hyde Park Village store showcases extra-virgin olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar, alongside other specialty foods and culinary gifts.
