King of The Coop 1812 N 15th St., Ybor City Arguably one of the most influential of local hot chicken purveyors, Joe Dodd, owner of King of the Coop, opened his first location in 2022. In that time, he opened multiple locations across Tampa Bay, and even a food hall. But quality didn’t keep up with Dodd’s expectations, and he since scaled back the operation to just his latest Ybor outpost. Tomorrow is National Fried Chicken Day, and one local restaurant chain is celebrating in a big, yet charitable way.

On Thursday, July 6, King of the Coop’s FLocale location, at 5910 N Florida Ave. in Seminole Heights, will offer $2 chicken tender boxes to help celebrate this nationwide holiday. The tender box special is available from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. tomorrow, or until they’re sold out.

King of the Coop’s $2 tender boxes will come with fries, pickles, sauce, bread and two tendies tossed in whatever spice level you prefer.

This deal will only be offered at its FLocale location in Seminole Heights, since its smaller locations will be closed so that managers there can help with this massive party.

Although tomorrow’s deal is in celebration of National Fried Chicken Day, the promotion also going to help raise funds for a local nonprofit. “$1 from every box sold will be donated by us to our friends at @tribeseminoleheights and the amazing things they do for the kids and families in the communities surrounding,” King of the Coop wrote on Facebook yesterday.

According to its website, Tribe Seminole Heights “leverages the power of community to serve children and families.” The organization hosts dozens of weekly kid’s classes that are only $5 to attend—which cover a variety of topics from arts and crafts to sports—as well as hosting a community closet, partnering with local schools for after-school programs and much more.

In addition to tomorrow’s tender special, FLocale will also offer drink specials from its bar and bumpin’ tunes from Tampa’s DJ Casper.
