Next month — on Friday, November 8 to be exact — North Hyde Park is set to welcome a new Greek-American bakery and eatery called Psomi. The latest edition to the local food scene is stationed at 701 N. Howard Ave., right down the street from Cass Street Deli.
Staying true to its name, which literally means "bread" in Greek, Psomi (pronounced "so-mi") offers artisan breads and pastries (as well as tzatziki) made fresh in-house. The upscale, fast-casual joint is reminiscent of St. Pete's Baba with a blue and white decor — Psomi has a few less evil eyes though. Inside, Psomi offers table and booth seating, with large photos of Greece decorating the walls. The patio has table and couch seating with large stone fixtures complete with a fireplace.
Psomi recently hosted its friends and family dinner, and photos of the coming menu were shared on Instagram featured dishes like grilled octopus, fried calamari, loukoumades (Greek doughnuts) and grape leaves stuffed with beef and rice. The bakery's social media is also showing off baked goods like baklava, spanakopita and challah french toast. Psomi will offer breakfast, lunch and a selection of cocktails like a Mykonos Margarita. More details to come as the opening date approaches.
