In his most recent episode of Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” celebrity chef Guy Fieri had nothing but good catchphrases regarding downtown Tampa’s Supernatural Food & Wine.

As previously reported, the “Mayor of Flavortown” was in Tampa back in early April filming the popular show—and the episode finally aired last Friday, May 22.

Supernatural, located at 305 E Polk St., was the only Tampa spot highlighted in the 21-minute episode, which found the frosted tipped 58-year-old shocked at how this popular sandwich shop could be so successful despite its incredibly small size.

“How do you explain a place that has no tables? 452 square feet,” asked Fieri when he and Tampa Chef Richard Hales first arrived at founder Wesley Roderick’s service window.

“I wanted to do high fine dining, so I went to New York, spent a few years in Europe, and then came back here. The vision was a high-end sandwich shop,” said Roderick.

In typical “Triple D” fashion, the episode highlighted the behind-the-scenes recipes of some of Supernatural’s most popular dishes, like the “Italian Stallion” sandwich, which Fieri noted “really is a sandwich worth waiting in line for.”

But Fieri was clearly most excited when he got to try one of Supernatural’s fresh daily cinnamon-sugar sour doughnuts, which Roderick claims often “sell out within the first 10 minutes after we open.”

“It’s light, it’s fluffy,” said Fieri after his first bite. “This concoction of salt and sugar, cinnamon, and turmeric is delicious. I mean, that’s got to be one of the best donuts I’ve ever had in my life.”

If you look close, viewers will also spot a few familiar Tampa faces in the episode, like Creative Loafing Tampa Bay co-owner and pony-tail haver Ray Roa, Hub bartender Kamran Mir and Elevated Embers co-founder Nate Hammond.

This isn’t the first time Supernatural has been showered with praise from a celebrity chef. Back in 2022, Food Network and Cooking Channel Chef Alton Brown said Supernatural’s bacon, egg and cheese sandwich was “The best I’ve had. The best ever.”

“Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” airs weekly on the Food Network.
