Matteo Trattoria and Pizzeria has opened its second location in downtown St. Petersburg at 2363 Central Ave.

The chain is known around town for its made-from-scratch pizzas and pasta, and the St. Pete location isn’t any different. Taking over the old Sophia’s Cucina + Enoteca space, Matteo keeps the Italian vibe alive with its signature Neapolitan pizza and homemade gnocchi.

Owner Nando Silvestri actually opened the first Matteo’s location in Los Angeles in 1992 and decided to next expand to the bay in Tampa. Named after Silvestri’s son, Matteo’s is known for providing a family-friendly atmosphere among all its hearty plates.

Located between The Saint Speakeasy and Cocktail St. Pete, you’ll have no shortage of drinks and dessert to choose from once you finish up your pizza.

The pizza joint is open Tuesday-Sunday (closed on Mondays) from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. every day except Friday and Saturday when it’s open from 5 p.m.-11 p.m. If you’re in the mood to stay home, the restaurant also offers takeout and delivery through Postmates.
