Restaurants in St. Petersburg's EDGE and Grand Central districts are feeding the region's bacon obsession (yes, we have one) through a monthlong food competition.
What challenge have they committed to? The inaugural Bacon Bacon, which will crown the local eatery that cooks up the best bacon-inflected dish. The Burg Bar & Grill, Brooklyn South, Engine Rose, Kings Street Food Counter, Old Key West Bar & Grill, Punky's Bar & Grill, Ricky P's Orleans Bistro, Urban Brew & BBQ, and Urban Comfort are the competitors.
To determine the People's Choice winner, patrons will dine at each of the nine participants, tasting their entries until Feb. 29. After, the plates will be scored online through the Grand Central District Association and EDGE District Association websites. A panel of guest judges will also rate the dishes for a second award, the Judge's Choice.
The winners are set to be unveiled March 1, and a trophy presentation will follow on a date to be announced.
