At 7 p.m. Oct. 26, the Food for Thought Lecture Series will begin at USF St. Petersburg in downtown St. Pete. Award-winning photographer Penny De Los Santos will lead the series' first discussion inside the University Student Center, allowing guests to vicariously travel the world through her food photography.

De Los Santos, who was born to an American military family in Europe that eventually settled into Texas, got into photography through her curiosity about culture. The subject is now at the heart of her work.

As an established food photographer, De Los Santos has ventured around the United States and 30-plus countries with her camera, and her shots have been showcased in more than a dozen cookbooks. Her multimedia presentation at USF St. Pete will highlight her experiences while on assignment for Saveur and National Geographic magazines, followed by a question-and-answer session.

The university's yearlong lecture series is free and has other discussions, including one with four local chefs and restaurateurs, planned for the coming months. Those who register for each event in advance are guaranteed a seat.
