Negroni Week, June 5 to 11, is fast approaching. But before we get into the good stuff, we need to talk about this classic cocktail, made with gin, Campari and sweet vermouth.

The Negroni is not for the faint of heart, at least at first. It's a shock to your taste buds; due to the bold flavors of Campari, the drink is nothing like you've ever tried. However, once you down a couple, you'll have yourself a new favorite drink order. After all, there's a reason why the Negroni has been around for nearly 100 years and is in the middle of a resurgence.

Need further proof? Name another cocktail that gets its own weeklong celebration.

OK, now let's get sauced. Here's everything you need to celebrate Negroni Week at home, or out on the town.

Negroni Sbagliato

Makes 1

Sbagliato, Italian for "mistake," might be the best accident in cocktail history. A bartender is said to have mistakenly grabbed a bottle of Champagne instead of gin, which resulted in the Negroni Sbagliato, a drink you might remember from this year's Cocktail Issue. Lighter and more effervescent, it's a great intro to the aperitivo realm.

1 ounce Campari

1 ounce sweet vermouth

1 ounce sparkling wine

Orange peel, for garnish

Fill a rocks glass with ice and add Campari, sweet vermouth and sparkling wine. Stir until chilled. Garnish with an orange peel.

Agavoni

Makes 1

My birthday beverage (intentionally) replaces the traditional recipe's gin with tequila, creating a south-of-the-border version of one of the world's great cocktails.

1 ounce tequila

1 ounce sweet vermouth

3/4 ounces Campari

2-3 dashes orange bitters

1/2 ounce simple syrup

Orange wedge, for garnish

Fill a cocktail glass with ice and add all ingredients. Stir briskly until ingredients are mixed and chilled. Garnish with an orange wedge.

Man About Town

Makes 1

Although I've never actually ordered one at a bar, this might be the Negroni variation with the coolest name. Man About Town uses rum as its base spirit, so choose a good aged rum and the drink will resemble another personal favorite of mine: The Boulevardier.

1 ounce rum

1 ounce Campari

1 ounce sweet vermouth

Fill a cocktail glass with ice and add all ingredients. Stir briskly until ingredients are mixed and chilled. Garnish with an orange wedge.

OP Negroni

Makes 1

A great reason to leave the house during Negroni Week. Tampa's Ocean Prime is participating in the holiday originally started in 2013 in an effort to raise money for charities around the globe  by donating $1 to Inspire Artistic Minds for every OP Negroni that's sold. The cocktail puts an emphasis on gin, ensuring juniper notes punch through the powerful Campari.

1 1/2 oz. Botanist Gin

3/4 oz. Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth

3/4 oz. Campari

Combine all ingredients in a beaker and add ice. Stir for 15-20 seconds or until cocktail is thoroughly chilled. Strain into chilled coupe.
