In a world where even plain water is infused with teeth-chattering quantities of caffeine and sold in stores, is anything left for budding entrepreneurs eager to cram more jittery energy into our diet? Is anything sacrosanct?
Not meat. Not anymore.
Perky Jerky has crossed that particular food science frontier with its new line of beef jerky products, designed to appeal to, well, I can't imagine. Truck drivers on the long haul? Low-carb dieters in need of a morning pick-me-up? Appalachian Trail hikers, maybe?
If so, the packaging isn't helping this caffeinated jerky's cause any. Despite a name that implies a burst of life-giving energy, nowhere on the sickly brown and orange label does it mention that each two-ounce bag contains roughly the caffeine equivalent of two cans of Red Bull. You'd think that information would be important, both for Perky's target audience and for any jerky fans struggling with heart issues.
