St. Petersburg sweet tooths will soon have another place to chill out. Coming along in the Tyrone area, Sub Zero Nitrogen Ice Cream hopes to open at 2216 66th St. N. by April.

Sub Zero is an ice cream franchise known for using liquid nitrogen to instantly freeze its signature treats to order, everything from Peanut Butter Bonds (peanut butter ice cream, fudge, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, brownies) to Key Lime Voltage (lime and cheesecake ice cream, graham cracker, cheesecake bites).

Guests can also dream up their own dessert nirvana with the build-your-own menu option.

“EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT THINGS ARE MOVING FORWARD WITH OUR BUILD OUT AND WE WILL BE OPENING SOON,” reads the all-caps update posted to Sub Zero St. Pete’s Facebook page Feb. 12. “IF ALL CONTINUES TO GO WELL WE ARE LOOKING AT A SOFT OPENING BY APRIL!”

Liquid nitrogen ice cream isn’t new to Tampa Bay, but Sub Zero is. Established 15 years ago by founders Jerry and Naomi Hancock, the franchise operates seven Florida locations at the moment, including two in Sarasota.

That’s on top of other outposts across the U.S., plus China and the United Arab Emirates.
