A second location opened for Best of the Bay-winning Sweet Mama’s soft serve food truck is now open in downtown Tampa within Lykes Gaslight Square Park at 410 N Franklin St.

The opening is in partnership with the Tampa Downtown Partnership, and Sweet Mama’s told Creative Loafing That while the new digs are temporary, the concept is hoping it will become a permanent fixture in the square.

The menu is a little different from the original Tampa Heights’ spot, located on the other side of downtown at 1630 N Franklin St., but not by much.

Most importantly, the Cookie Mama (warm cookie with ice cream) and the Shake What Your Mama Gave Ya customizable shake options are still available.

Owned by Akwi Njoh and business partner Jahkeal Samuel, the first location opened in March and overcame just a couple new business hiccups. And Njoh and Samuel want to do more than money off of ice cream.

“Jahkeal and I want to create a diverse environment for our Tampa community to gather,” Njoh said. “Although we are serving ice cream, our greater purpose is to assist other minority entrepreneurs interested in launching a business.”

The new shop is open seven days a week: Monday-Friday 11a.m.-7 p.m., Saturday noon-8 p.m. and 1 p.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday.
