On Monday, Cycle Brewing announced its remaining bottle releases planned for Tampa Bay Beer Week would come to a halt. The fiercely loved downtown St. Pete brewery kicked off the annually anticipated series of cash-only barrel-aged releases on Sunday, but has discovered an issue with the latest bottle that rolled out.
“Looks like we have a disaster brewing in the Monday bottles. Anybody who purchased one (or several) please return them for a refund at your convenience,” reads an update posted to the Cycle Facebook page earlier today. “Anybody with extenuating circumstances or who opened theirs already send a message and we will take care of you.”
Despite the unfortunate setback, there is some good news. The Sunday release seems fine, for one — though Cycle is also honoring refunds for beer fans who’d rather not take their chances — and the brewery’s popular Barrel Aged Day festival is still scheduled to take place on Friday.
Regular hours will resume at the tasting room, too, with Cycle’s normal tap list.
There’s no word on whether or not the brewery — which isn’t sure what went wrong, yet isn’t making excuses and is trying to make the situation right — intends to debut the other releases in the future, but if it does, another announcement will be made. And as for the festival-only bottle, Cycle expects to decide on that beer later this week.
“We are beside ourselves over this, we have a lot of safeguards to prevent this from happening but it wasn't enough,” the brewery’s Facebook post continues. “Our apologies to the folks who already experienced the issues, and for folks who made the trip to get bottles only to be hugely disappointed.”
