Does it get much better than a margarita that costs 60 cents? The California-based restaurant group behind The Rusty Pelican and Whiskey Joe’s Bar & Grill doesn’t think so. On Thursday, Oct. 11, Specialty Restaurants Corporation will celebrate 60 years in business by showcasing the 60-cent Dave’s Margarita at its large lineup of restaurants across the country.
Locally, those restaurants include Whiskey Joe’s and The Rusty Pelican in Tampa, as well as Whiskey Joe’s in Port Richey.
A tribute to SRC founder David Tallichet, whose namesake drink is the marg (smart guy), Dave’s Margarita is offered with the purchase any appetizer or entree. The discounted cocktail also has a limit of two per guest.
Eateries under the SRC umbrella are taking this 60th anniversary celebration a step further. Starting next week, they plan to feature the 1958 Throwback Menu before their deal on Dave’s Margarita rolls out. The bill of fare — available Monday, Oct. 8, through Sunday, Oct. 21 — is driven by the most popular orders at the restaurant group’s first concept in Cali, The Reef, including teriyaki steak, crab cakes with “tiki sauce,” pineapple cheesecake and Mai Tais.
Known for its themed restaurants, SRC is behind nationwide concepts like Whiskey Red’s and Castaway, in addition to The Rusty Pelican and Whiskey Joe’s. David’s son, John Tallichet, continues to run the restaurant group as a family-owned company.
