Tampa Bay restaurant news: Openings, closings and makeovers

The dish on the restaurant news that has been (or will be) the talk of the town.

Pinellas:

A source recently informed me that the highly anticipated Taco Bus #2 in St. Pete could be opening as early as December of this year. Look for post-barhopping jaunts up Central for authentic Mexican fare at 3 a.m. a la Seminole Heights. 2324 Central Ave., St. Pete.

First wine bars were all the rage a few years ago, then craft and import brew pubs became the hot ticket. Now, cocktails and spirits are getting their due with the resurgence in popularity of the mixed drink (and I'm not talking about daiquiris and screwdrivers). The Mandarin Hide, which opened last weekend in Downtown St. Pete, is an upscale, speakeasy-esque bar where patrons can get handcrafted cocktails with choice spirits, as well as craft beers and wine. It's also a smoke-free venue. 231 Central Ave., St. Pete, 727-231-4007, facebook.com/TheMandarinHide

Baby Cakes Café in the Grand Central District of St. Pete has closed its door after only a few short months. The space is already set to reopen in mid-November as Grand Central Perc, serving breakfast, lunch and locally roasted coffees. 2444 Central Ave., St. Pete.

Casa Tina's on the picturesque Main Street in Downtown Dunedin has added another establishment to its family of restaurants: Cabana Cafe and Gifts. The cafe occupies the spot that formerly housed The Purple Moon. This quaint spot serves a small but eclectic menu of paninis, soups, and salads, as well as coffee, espresso drinks and tea. But the biggest selling point is the front and side porch seating from which one can watch the passerby. Live music on Friday and Saturday nights. 833 Douglas Ave, Dunedin, 727-712-2233, cabanacafeandgifts.com

The Downtown Dunedin Shuffle: In September, The Living Room on Main moved into the spot formerly occupied by Bellini's. Bellini's moved to Downtown Clearwater, kept its menu and changed its name to Casanova. The owners of The Living Room are turning their old spot into a barbecue restaurant, Dunedin Smokehouse, which should be opening very soon. The Living Room- 487 Main St., Dunedin, 727-736-5202, thelivingroomonmain.com; Dunedin Smokehouse- 680 Main St., Dunedin, 727-736-5202; Casanova- 811 Cleveland St., Clearwater, 727-733-5449
