The TIKIM Filipino Food Fun Run is coming to Tampa next month — and the details are mighty delicious. Why? Oh, just because participants of the 5K are asked to race (or walk, but, really, no need to take your time when good grub is involved) to flavorful Filipino food stations set up at each kilometer along the course.
Tikim is the Filipino word for “to taste.” The Filipino Channel hosted the first installment of its Filipino Food Fun Run in California earlier this year, and locally, the event kicks off at 10 a.m. Nov. 17 at the Philippine Cultural Enrichment Complex, where PhilFest takes place annually.
Food stations spread out throughout the 5K feature sweet, spicy, salty and sour dishes. But the celebration of Filipino culture doesn’t stop there. Awesomely, the Filipino Food Fun Run also functions as a mini-festival, meaning even more beloved eats from the Southeast Asian island country — traditional or otherwise — are planned beyond the finish line.
Added bonus: A portion of the registration proceeds benefits the feeding program of Bantay Bata (Child Watch). For every adult that enters the Filipino Food Fun Run online, meals will go to 10 malnourished children in the Philippines.
Participants also receive a T-shirt, custom finisher medal, disposable bib chip timing, free finish line photos and entry into the post-run festival. Who’s in?
