Twitter's #MillennialFood hashtag has exceeded my expectations. Instead of a home for stuff like cold-brew cereal (which I'm sure is tasty, Ray), endless Sriracha, or the ever-so-trendy avocado toast, the hashtag is a place for something much more glorious — Trail Mix and Chill, Tinder Tots, Potato On Fleek Soup, you name it.
Of course, most of these foods are made-up plays on viral words and phrases the kids have coined (I'm among those "kids," but saying my generation sounds too asshole-y), though they seem like solid menu items for someone's millennial-themed restaurant. That's got to be a thing somewhere already, no? I mean, downtown Fort Myers just got a microbrewery called Millenninal Brewing, so I'm just sayin'. It could happen.
You'll also come across some tweets that poke fun at millennials (Snowflake Cones, for example), which is to be expected. But it's all in good fun.
The hashtag started trending early Thursday morning thanks to Comedy Central's @midnight, an after-hours game show hosted by Chris Hardwick. And while I'm not sure if #MillennialFood is a regular segment for the series, does it really matter?
Creep the hashtag and come up with a dish or two of your own. Some of my favorites:
