Remember the character Ichabod Crane from the scary tale “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”? Well, apparently one of his descendants is a tavern keeper in charge of a Ybor City haunted speakeasy pop-up and tells everyone all about his ancestor.

The pop-up, named “Be Afraid of the Dark Pop-Up Bar,” is a four-part interactive cocktail journey where guests can hear dark and hair-raising stories about Crane and ghosts of the historic district’s past.

“Beware of the surprises of the night and of course, the guests that never left,” warns the event’s Eventbrite page.

The haunted speakeasy is at The Underground at Old Historic Church, one of the most haunted places in the state, at 1909 N 15th St. in Ybor City (beneath that new cereal bar).

The really scary part is that the events, which had their first run in February, keep selling out. The latest batch of March dates is also sold out, but organizers Rock Star Beer Festivals (also in charge of the upcoming Tampa Beer Festival) told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay that more, still unannounced, dates are in the works for May.
