Tonight's Top Chef Masters preview: Mekhi Phifer, soul food and missing stew

Missing stew

Celebrity Birthday Party

Tonight on Top Chef Masters, it looks like they'll be cooking for yet another random celebrity that has nothing to do with the food and restaurant world. This time it's Mekhi Phifer and he's requesting a soul food-themed feast for his birthday party.

The chef'testants up to bat tonight for $10k for their charity and a shot at the finals are David Burke, Marcus Samuelsson, Monica Pope, Thierry Rautureau (the one with the fun hat) and Carmen Gonzalez. I'm particularly excited about Thierry's and Carmen's sexy accents and the fact that Gail Simmons (and her fabulous rack) will be on the show tonight. I even hear that Kelly Choi actually eats something tonight!

It looks (from the videos below) like the drama is served up when Carmen misplaces her stew for the Elimination Challenge and has to go back to the Top Chef kitchens to retrieve it. !Escandalo!

I also love the fact that Monica Pope thinks she has the soul food challenge in the bag because her restaurant is located next to a soul food restaurant. So if I worked next to a plastic surgeon, does that mean I would automatically be awesome at giving facelifts and boob jobs?

Tune in to Bravo tonight at 110 pm EST/9 pm C, join our Twitter party during the show (Jeff: @TheStew, Katie: @culinarypirate), and listen to our podcast here tomorrow!
