This week's installment of Top Chef: Just Desserts had the final five making edible bouquets and preparing pastries for a "celebri-tea" party.
For the Quickfire, guest judge and sugar flower artist extraordinaire, Shinmin Li, asked the chef'testants to make a flower arrangement good enough to eat. I think it was pretty much "anything goes" because we saw buds made from sugar, chocolate, frosting and cookies. Morgan show us that he knows how to "pull sugar" (I just think that makes a great innuendo) and then "accidentally" knocked over one of Yigit's sugar vases. Do I smell sabotage? Yigit is right on Morgan's heels with challenge wins, plus he is giving him a run for his money for the title of "hottest dude in the house". Not surprisingly at all, Morgan won and took the $5k prize.
While I think the Elimination Challenge was clever this week, I just don't get the chefs' interpretations of it. They had to create bite-sized duo desserts/petit fours for a tea party hosted by Food & Wine editor Dana Cowin that were inspired by celebrity couples (hence the "celebri-tea" theme). We had everything from Conan O'Brien and his sidekick Andy Richter to Oprah and Stedman, and one chef who was inspired by Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush (whose relationship lasted all of five minutes; I wouldn't call them and iconic couple).
