Mallory Moyer Album Release Party w/Quaid Bastian/Jay Stephenson/Thancha Anderson She released her new Solo Going EP back in May, but Bay area songwriter Mallory Moyer (RIYL: Jewel, Joss Stone, Tristan Prettyman, Glen Hansard) is just getting around to officially celebrating it. The 28-year-old will be supported by three friends at this show, and this is another friendly reminder to not be a heckler since the show is being recorded live as well. (The Blue Note, Tampa) INFO
Summer Bash Family Fun Day w/Jus Henry/Chevi Boi Jus Henry’s new album, Challenge The Motive, is full of messages centered around uplifting and looking out for the youth, so bravo to the 35-year-old Tampa emcee and singer who is putting some action behind his words by headlining this outdoor show where the first 200 kids get a free backpack and school supplies. Self-made, sucker-dodging Tampa native Chevi Boi Warren opens the show. (Macfarlane Park, Tampa) INFO
✔️ John Frinzi w/Roger Bartlett We’re expecting a strong contingent of Parrotheads to show up in St. Petersburg when Lakeland-based guitarist John Frinzi takes to the listening room at Hideaway Café. The Lakelander’s early demos inspired Coral Reefer Doyle Grisham to team up with Frinzi and produce his solo debut. This one finds Frinzi playing alongside original Jimmy Buffett guitarist Roger Bartlett as he works through songs from a 2017 album, Blue Sky View, where many of the songs are co-written with novelist Tom Corcoran, who got co-writing credits on Jimmy Buffett classics “Fins,” and “Cuban Crime of Passion.” (Hideaway Café, St. Petersburg) INFO

Muse, 30 Seconds To Mars PVRIS blast into Tampa’s MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre — 05.21.17
30 Seconds to Mars w/Walk The Moon/MisterWives/Joywave Jared Leto rightfully played second fiddle to Muse at last summer’s MidFlorida Credit Amphitheatre gig, but the actor and songwriter gets to be on top of the bill this weekend when 30 Seconds to Mars headlines that shed sitting in the shadows of I-4 and the Hard Rock Casino. Leto, 46, has a new album to share this time around, and while the jury is still out on the grungetronic America, Leto’s fans have flocked to the politically charged effort, which examines the fraught state of the country plus the left and right hardliners who continue to push a divisive narrative forward. Ohio rock band Walk the Moon (“Shut Up And Dance”), Big Apple indie-pop sextet MisterWives (“Reflections”) and Joywaves (which played 97X’s Next Big Thing in December) open the show. ✔️ Roger McGuinn Byrds frontman Roger McGuinn just announced that he and bandmate Chris Hillman will go on a tour marking the 50th anniversary of the band’s pioneering country-rock album Sweetheart of the Rodeo. There are only five dates on that trek, however, and none of them are in Florida, so this show (which is the 75-year-old’s first at The Cap since 2012) is your best bet to relive that classic LP. Russ Van Cleave w/Jeff Brawer/Dan Padilla/Buck Sands Three old-school vocalists from Tampa’s own, storied punk rock scene have promised “beer and pizza and feelings about feelings” at this laid-back set happening at Seminole Heights’ Hampton Station. The neighborhood bar famously banned kids in 2017, which is perfectly fine with us because who the hell wants to share pizza, wings and cold ones with rapidly growing humans anyway? Tampa’s USF Sun Dome will change name to Yuengling Center
✔️ The Life Tour w/Boy George and Culture Club/The B-52s/Tom Bailey Culture Club is in no rush to release its crowdfunded new album, Tribes, but the U.K. New Romantics are excited to see fans on this nostalgia trip of a summer tour. The 44-date Life Tour kicks off on Friday in St. Augustine, and this July 30 show finds Boy George taking to the renamed Yeungling Center (officially the USF Sun Dome’s new name as of July 1) along with two new-wave OGs — Athens, Georgia’s The-B52s and the U.K.’s Tom Bailey, of Thompson Twins fame. ✔️ Rocko English w/Hexproof/Liquid Pennies Experimental punk-rock outfit Hexproof plays host when a new St. Petersburg band (Bulgarian glam-slam trio Liquid Pennies) plays its second show ever before an Orlando export — Rocko English — brings its brief but brawny catalog of jagged, scruffed-up indie rock for this show in downtown St. Pete’s fringe district. Fans have spent the last year living off of Rocko English’s Great Rates EP, but a new single (“everything’s fine,” released last month) is giving us hope for a full-length sometime soon. (Planet Retro Records, St. Petersburg) INFO
Lesser Glow w/Pipe Dreamer/Alex Nicosia Fans of Massachusetts sludge/doom metal trio The Proselyte might want to check out Pelagic Records’ Lesser Glow, which is led by Proselyte’s Alex Rodriguez, who joins ex-members of bands like Black Elm and Max Jupiter in creating a take on prog-metal that’s a little more nuanced than most of the stuff the genre is churning out. Ruined, released this year, is an ambitious record where the absence of sound is just as important as the riffs and melodies, and it’ll be interesting to see it live at this show where Dunedin’s Pipe Dreamer and St. Pete industrial act Alex Nicosa play support.
