David Michael Portner is adored in indie-rock rock circles, and a lot of the devotion has to do with the 39-year-old composer’s role in co-founding revered Brooklyn art-pop outfit Animal Collective. The songwriter brings his Avey Tare project (and its seventh album, Cows on Hourglass Pond) to Ybor City’s Crowbar where he’ll surely stage a multimedia live experience that adds playful visuals to music that’s already childlike in the way utilizes delay, and colorful arrangements to find a middle ground between some of Animal Collective’s more hard-to-grasp work and the vanilla thinking-person’s-pop that algorithms plop on that “Indie Chillout” playlist you’re subscribed to. Fellow Animal Collective member Brian Ross Weitz (aka Geologist) opens the show.
