Dori Freeman’s self-titled debut LP may feature the help of Teddy Thompson (offspring of folk heroes Richard and Linda Thompson), but you can hear other influences like Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss and June Carter all over the 10-track effort. Songs by the talent from the Appalachian Mountains of Southwest Virginia feel rural at their core, but they do dip into some of Freeman’s out-of-the-box influences (read: Rufus Wainwright, Father John Misty) as well. She’ll probably sound divine at the Straz Center’s Jaeb Theater.
