Tampa's Automatic Loveletter isn't your typical emo band. Yeah, the quartet serves up glossy power ballads with titles such as "Eyes on You," but listen to the vocals; there's a grittiness and authority there that transcends genre. Frontwoman Juliet Simms (pictured) is only 21, but she belts out lines about love lost like a seasoned diva. Her band headlines this CL in Concert gig at the State Theatre after returning from a cross-country Warped Tour run in support of its debut EP, Recover, which came out on Epic/Sony. Joining Automatic Loveletter on the formidable six-act lineup is master-of-many-sounds indie rock band Win Win Winter, led by Juliet's brother, Tommy Simms.

CL in Concert, in conjunction with AES: Automatic Loveletter w/Tides Of Man/Win Win Winter/Très Bien/Mumpsy/Lavin, 8 p.m. (doors), Fri., Sept., 5, State Theatre, St. Petersburg, $8/$5 in advance. All ages.
