Acoustic rockers the Avett Brothers shook the Skipperdome last December with their frisky folk-rock, and WMNF is bringing the band (two siblings and a pal) back to town for a performance at the Cuban Club in Ybor City. Since quietly emerging on the scene in 2000, the Tar Heel trio has been steadily winning over audiences nationwide with a bouncy hybrid of mountain music styles — namely bluegrass and folk — filtered through an indie-rock sensibility. Lyrically, singer/banjoist Scott Avett is all about the confessionals — even if it means bad news on the home front. "I'd like to say I'm a faithful man," Scott sings. "But it might not be true." That line is from the Avetts' 2007 breakthrough album, Emotionalism. Earlier this year, the band announced that its next full-length will be helmed by super-producer Rick Rubin (Johnny Cash, Metallica) and issued on Columbia/American.

The Avett Brothers w/Matt Butcher & the Revolvers, 8 p.m. Thurs., Oct. 23, Cuban Club, Ybor City, $17 in advance/$20 at the door.
