Well this Friday night shindig is a party on all kinds of levels thanks to St. Petersburg artist Bailey Gumienny, who unveils a new portrait series, “Throwin’ Shade,” where she highlights the duality of sunglasses.

"The combination of painted text with classic oil techniques creates a dialogue about how our identities are more becoming more fluid and ever changing and we’re seeming to wear our thoughts and beliefs on our sleeves,” she said in an artist statement. “Or in this case, our sunglasses.” The soundtrack — featuring one of Orlando’s wildest live rock acts, The Golden Pelicans along with Bay area natives just back from and headed for tour (Charles Irwin and Fever Beam, respectively) — makes this the best local show happening on Friday night.

Fever Beam Tour Kick Off w/Charles Irwin/The Golden Pelicans. Fri. Sept. 6, 9 p.m. (music at 10 p.m.). No cover. The Bends, St. Petersburg. INFO.
