Mississippi singer-songwriter Paul Thorn is playing Clearwater’s Ruth Eckerd Hall on Feb. 17, and he’s got a heartbreaking new single to share before he gets here.
“It’s Never Too Late to Call” is the first song from the soon-to-be-released album of the same name, and Thorn wrote it in honor of his sister Deborah who passed away in 2018. His sister, a night owl, would be ready to talk at any hour of the night when Thorn was on the road.
“I could call her and she’d always be awake,” Thorn said. “I wrote this song about her.”
The Tupelo musician is not a stranger to Tampa, playing shows at the sadly defunct Skipper’s Smokehouse and even a WMNF Birthday party back in 2009. And here’s a little Thorn trivia: The musician was a professional boxer before getting discovered by the brother of The Police’s Stewart Copeland—his first big gig was opening for Sting.
Thorn plays a solo acoustic show on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at Clearwater’s Ruth Eckerd Hall. The gig was moved from Capitol Theatre to allow for better social distancing, and if you bought tickets to the original show, look out for an email with information about your new seats.
Ruth Eckerd is only selling tickets in pairs, and the venue is acting a 50% capacity. Temperatures will be taken, and masks are required. For an update on Covid protocols at both venues, check here.
