Robert Cray celebrated his 50th anniversary of showmanship last year by playing select dates with The Doobie Brothers, which makes us wonder if Mr. “Smoking Gun” will appear on the band’s first album with Michael McDonald in decades.

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard brand-new material from the 71-year-old blues guitar virtuoso, but with five Grammys and 20 albums under his belt, what does he owe us?

Either way, Cray and his band—featuring Albert King alum George Sluppick on drums—return to the Cap for the first time since January 2022, when the Omicron variant of Covid-19 was still a concern.
